Fire on summit of Paritutu rock burns itself out

A fire on the summit of Paritutu rock in New Plymouth has burned itself out.

The Fire Service was alerted to the blaze at 9.20pm last night.

The fire was on the seaward side of the 153-metre high rock and could be seen all over New Plymouth.

A spokesman said the fire was left to burn as it was too difficult to access, and heavy rain last night helped put it out.
