An Australian man has been deported from India after being found with Islamic State propaganda and deemed too dangerous to enter the country.

A Malay-Australian youth was deported after being detained for questioning at New Delhi's International Airport on Thursday night.

The paper reported he had arrived on a flight from Perth and authorities acting on a tip-off questioned him and found jihadi literature on his laptop, as well as photos of him posing with firearms.

Australian Government sources said they were aware of his departure but did not have sufficient evidence to stop him leaving.
