NZ market up, ASX closes lower

The NZX 50 rose 14 points to close at 3402 on a turnover of $123 million at 5.34 pm on Tuesday.

The Reserve Bank of Australia left the official cash rate at 4.25% on Tuesday and the Australian 200 was down 52 points to 4210.

Fletcher Building was down 19 cents to $6.66, Telecom was up 8 cents to $2.27 and Chorus was up 2 cents to $3.33.

Sky City Entertainment was up 2 cents to $3.87, Sky Television was up 2 cents to $5.16.

Tower was up 6 cents to $1.70, Contact Energy was up 5 cents to $4.92 and Port of Tauranga was down 15 cents to $11.25.

Air New Zealand was up 0.5 cents to $0.87, Goodman Fielder was up 1 cent to $0.90 and The Warehouse was up 1 cent to $2.54.

In currency markets, at just after 5.30pm the New Zealand dollar was trading at 81.47 US cents, 76.71 Australian cents, 51.40 pence, 66.33 Yen, 0.6173 euro and the Trade Weighted Index stood at 72.21.
