Port chairman given award by shareholders

Port of Tauranga chairman John Parker has been awarded the New Zealand Shareholders Association's beacon for leadership and guidance on corporate practice.

The association says the port's shares have been one of the best performing stocks on the NZX during his 16 years on the board, with the share price almost trebling since he became chairman in 2004.

The association says large fixed infrastructure like port facilities are not usually considered as anything but steady income investments, but Mr Parker has turned that around.
