Not much sign of gender diversity in Corporate Australia

Corporate Australia is dragging its feet on gender diversity. Companies make a lot of noise about providing opportunities for women at a senior level, but there's not a lot of sign of it.

A new survey has found almost a half of the top 200 companies in Australia fail to meet the most basic gender balance requirements.

Radio New Zealand's Sydney correspondent reports the survey was carried out by a group called Women on Boards and is based on the Stock Exchange's corporate governance principles on gender diversity.

Of the worst rated companies, nearly 80% had no female directors.

Radio New Zealand's correspondent says the worst offenders are in Western Australia, which would appear to reflect the prevalence of mining companies in that state. The top rated companies for female board representation are all in the financial services or property sectors.
