Telecom ratchets-up its internet speed on mobile devices

Telecom is finally about to follow its rival and launch faster internet speeds on its mobile devices.

Users will be able to latch on to its fourth-generation network from the early hours of Tuesday but only in the main centres.

It will let them send and receive data much faster than they can on the existing 3G network.

Telecom's launch comes after Vodafone started its own 4G network earlier this year.

But unlike Vodafone, the service will be available on Telecom pre-pay mobile phones.

And Telecom's retail chief executive, Chris Quin, says Telecom's 4G network will be better.

Mr Quin says dates for expanding into other areas are firming as the process for spectrum auctions continues.
