Abano takeovers on track

A trans-Tasman dental group is on track with its takeover target of acquiring a new practice every three weeks, and it says it now has more than 150 of them.

Abano Healthcare Group owns Lumino in New Zealand and Dental Partners in Australia, and has recently made its 16th dental acquisition in the first nine months of this financial year.

The group also has businesses in the audiology, rehabilitation and diagnostics sectors.

Abano managing director Alan Clarke said the new clinics in Australia took the company's tally of dental clinics to 151.

"In Australia, these clinics tend to be larger, perhaps in the order of four to six chairs, so six dental chairs, and that probably means around four dentists, maybe two hygienists."

Practices in New Zealand tended to have two to four chairs and correspondingly there were fewer clinicians involved, Mr Clarke said.
