Liquidators appointed to Western Pacific Insurance

7:22 am on 5 April 2011

Grant Thornton has been appointed liquidators of Queenstown-based insurance company Western Pacific Insurance.

The receiver says the decision has been made after Western Pacific's directors became concerned about the solvency of the insurer.

Grant Thornton says it's checking that all insurance policies are in place and valid and that all reinsurance contracts are in order.

It is giving priority to claims relating to the Christchurch earthquake, of which there are 78 claims for the September earthquake and 77 claims for February.

Western Pacific was established in April 2005.
