Port Hills residents seek zoning review

Some 132 residents of Christchurch's Port Hills want their land zoning reviewed following earthquakes in the region.

Sixty whose land has been zoned green want to go red. The remainder are in the red zone and want to go green.

Red-zoned land is too damaged to reoccupy, while homes on green-zoned land can be repaired or rebuilt.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says one of every seven property owners in the Port Hills have applied for the review.

An independent panel of experts will consider the information made available to officials during the zoning process.

Results will be finalised in December.
