The New Zealand shot putter Dame Valerie Adams has shown she's the leading gold medal candidate at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, throwing the best distance in qualifying today.

Dame Valerie who only returned to training a few months ago after giving birth to her first child threw 18.52 metres, over a metre further than her nearest rival.
This is her first international event since winning silver at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and expected to be her competition swansong.
She is chasing a fourth successive Commonwealth Games Gold medal.
The final is tomorrow evening.
