The police investigating the murder of an Auckland man are looking for a vehicle and a stereo speaker believed to have been taken from the property where he was killed.

The body of 32-year-old Lee Ross McMurdo was found by family members at his Helensville home last July.

Detective Inspector Greg Cramer says police want to hear about the movements of a blue Mitsubishi van seen close to Mr McMurdo's home on State Highway 16 in the early hours of 27 July.

The van's two male occupants are described as having dark complexions; one had long hair.

Inspector Cramer says the police are also looking for a missing speaker about 90 centimetres high with a dark wood-grained finish.

He says a television missing from Mr McMurdo's house has since been recovered from a property in Auckland.
