One of the world's most recognised soccer players, David Beckham, delighted screaming fans by signing autographs as he arrived at Auckland International Airport on Wednesday morning.

Beckham is in Auckland to play an exhibition match with his LA Galaxy team mates against the Oceania All Stars at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday.

About 150 fans, many of whom had waited for hours, were at the arrivals lounge as Beckham and his team mates were welcomed by a local kapa haka group.

A smiling Beckham looked relaxed but bleary-eyed after the flight from Los Angeles, standing back and surrounded by his team mates.

As he made his way out, screaming fans chanted his name, and he spent several minutes signing autographs.

The team was to have a training session on Thursday.
