Romanian group kept out of NZ

A group of Romanians suspected of being a criminal gang has been prevented from entering New Zealand.

Immigration New Zealand border operations manager Karen Urwin says the seven-member group claimed they wanted to stay in Auckland.

However, profiling led officers to believe they were a criminal gang.

A couple in the group had been stopped from travelling to New Zealand three years ago and were warned at the time they would need a visa to visit again.

They and several other members had previously been deported from the United States after being convicted of theft.
