Petrol prices down 2c a litre

9:26 pm on 19 September 2012

Petrol retailer Z Energy dropped the price of petrol by two cents a litre on Wednesday.

That brings 95 octane to $2.25.9 a litre and 91 octane to $2.17.9 a litre

A company spokesperson says the drop is due to a decrease in the cost of refined petrol and the high New Zealand dollar.

Diesel prices remain unchanged.

BP and Caltex followed in dropping their prices by the same amount.

AA spokesperson Mark Stockdale says the decrease is timely because the exchange rate has been increasing in value and the cost to import fuel has dropped.

Mr Stockdale expects other stations to drop their prices and says motorists should shop around before filling up.
