Northern employers welcome independent jobs inquiry

7:00 pm on 13 October 2012

The Northern Employers & Manufacturers Association is welcoming an opposition inquiry into jobs in the manufacturing sector - as long as it takes a bipartisan approach.

Labour, the Greens and New Zealand First announced on Friday they will investigate a "crisis" in manufacturing, saying they will appoint an independent chair and hold hearings around New Zealand next year.

The Government refused to take part.

The Northern Employers & Manufacturers Association says that if the inquiry is open-minded and independent it will support it, and hopes the Government will listen to any worthy suggestions.

The association says even though some opposition estimates of job loss in the sector have been exaggerated, it's very important that more jobs are created.
