Questions arise over progress into Air NZ crash investigation

An American newspaper says aviation safety experts are concerned by a lack of progress into an investigation of the Air New Zealand crash in Perpignan in November.

Seven people died when an Airbus A320 dived into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of France on 27 November. Five were New Zealanders.

Wall Street Journal senior aviation writer, Andy Pasztor, said safety experts are concerned by the lack of answers as the Airbus 320 is one of the most popular aircraft and has a good safety record.

In his article he said that "according to people familiar with the investigation", it has been hindered by a French criminal probe into the crash, and a failure so far to retrieve any details from the plane's two flight data recorders.

Something which he says is highly unusual.

In response to Mr Pasztor's article, Air New Zealand said speculation by people not prepared to be quoted is unhelpful.
