Brothel opponents worried approval is fait accompli

Some opponents of the construction of a so-called super brothel in Auckland are worried the council has already given the project the go-ahead.

A public hearing is underway to determine whether the Chow Group's 15 storey building opposite the Sky City Casino should be granted resource consent.

A submitter opposing the building, Lisa Prager, from the Westmere Heritage Association, says she feels cheated by the hearing.

She says she fears the council has made up its mind up and will not take any submissions into account.

Chair of the hearing, David Kirkpatrick, reminded submitters the hearing is about the building being granted resource consent, not what it will be used for.

The independent commissioners hearing the case are expected to make a decision before the end of the year.
