Food prices increased 0.8% in January, driven higher by big increases in fruit and vegetable prices.
Statistics New Zealand reports a 49.5% increase in the price of tomatoes, while the kiwifruit price was up 48.2% and that of mandarins 37.3%.
Lamb prices fell 9.6% in January.
The increase in food prices overall in January follows a slight fall in December.
The annual increase in food prices was 9.5% in the year to January.
