Police investigating a fatal stabbing in Waihi say items of interest, including several knives, have been handed in over the weekend.

Robert Wilkinson, known to his family as Murray, was stabbed outside his caravan at Waihi Beach on New Year's Day.

The New Zealander, who moved to the Australian state of Queensland, died in Waikato Hospital on Thursday from injuries suffered after being stabbed the face and neck.

Detective Inspector Chris Page says scene examinations have been completed and a number of knives have been found.

He says police now have an accurate picture of who was in the area at the time of the attack.

Thirty officers from across the North Island are working on the case.
