A man has died after falling down a bank near Opotiki while on a walk.
The man, who was 75, was with a group of 10 others when he fell 20 metres from the Nikau Loop Track at about 12.15pm on Saturday.
Police say a rescue helicopter was flown to the scene and rescued the other people.
They say another helicopter with police and a paramedic onboard retrieved the body at about 6.30pm.
Police will not release his name until his family has been told what happened.
