A child has died in Rotorua after he was hit by a car a relative was driving.
Police say a woman, who is related to the 16-month-old boy but is not his mother, was leaving a house early on Wednesday evening and did not realise the child had followed her.
They say her car hit him on the footpath outside as she went to drive away.
Police say they are investigating the death and the boy's distressed family is receiving support.
