Racing clubs in Otago and Southland have been ordered to hand over files as part of a government investigation into gaming machine grants.

The Department of Internal Affairs and the Serious Fraud Office launched the probe into the alleged manipulationof pokie grants last month.

The investigation concerns dozens of southern racing clubs.

Thoroughbred racing organisation GallopSouth says the Government has requested bank statements, minutes and grant applications.

General manager Malcolm Little says although investigators are searching racing clubs, the main focus is the Bluegrass, Infinity, and New Zealand Community pokie trusts.

Mr Little says the goal is to find out how GallopSouth and the pokie trusts operate and his organisation is complying with all government requests.
