Rain in upper North Island easing but will return

11:56 am on 16 April 2013

Metservice says although rain in parts of the upper North island was easing during Tuesday, it's yet to reach full force.

Metservice forecaster Hordur Thordarson said the rain was easing in Northland, Coromandel and Waikato during Tuesday, but strong winds and heavy rain would return Wednesday.

The lines company Vector said it had some power cuts in parts of Auckland due to the weather but the supply was expected to be restored early Tuesday afternoon.

The rain was heading across the North Island, to the Bay of Plenty, north of Gisborne and eventually down to the top of the South Island.
