Two people died and another was seriously injured in a two-car collision on State Highway 1 in the lower North Island.
A Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore collided at the intersection of SH 1 and Mokena Kohere Street at Manakau about 10.50pm on Saturday, police said. One of the cars rolled, trapping people inside.
Police said it appeared one of the cars may have crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the other.
Both drivers died at the scene. A 51-year-old woman was flown by helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition.
