PGC ordered to pay former employee compensation

The Employment Relations Authority has ordered Pyne Gould Corporation to pay a former employee compensation after being dismissed for authorising his own salary bonus.

James West lodged a claim to the authority after being sacked in 2012. He was Pyne Gould Corporation's financial controller and processed the bonus.

The company recovered the money because it thought the payment wasn't properly authorised by the PGC board.

The Employment Relations Authority agrees Mr West was not entitled to the bonus of about $140,000.

However, it has ordered Pyne Gould to pay him about $150,000 in lost earnings and compensation. PGC is seeking costs from Mr West of about the same amount.
