Mt Hutt ski field in Canterbury is celebrating 40 years of operation this weekend.
First opened by Austrian Willie Huber in 1973, the business now employs 300 people through a four-month ski season.
General manager James Urquhart said it continues to play an important role in the mid-Canterbury economy.
