2013 Loder award goes to Christchurch botanist

A Christchurch botanist has been presented with New Zealand's most prestigious conservation award, the Loder Cup.

Nicholas Head has been recognised for identifying Canterbury plant life and leading field trips, public talks and advocacy for conservation.

Environment Minister Nick Smith says a particular benefactor of Mr Head's work has been the unique plant life in the limestone areas of South Canterbury and the Mackenzie Basin.

The Loder Cup was donated by Gerald Loder in 1926 to encourage and honour New Zealanders who work to investigate, promote, retain, and cherish New Zealand's native plants.
