About 10,000 Upper Hutt properties are without power after a car hit a power pole earlier this evening.
Wellington Electricity said the crash accident had affected so many people because it took out both high and low voltage lines.
The affected homes are in the Brown Owl and Maidstone areas of Upper Hutt. Crews are working to restore power.
