Council staff to work through holidays to process consents

7:43 pm on 16 October 2013

Christchurch City Council staff will work through the Christmas and New Year period in an effort to keep on top of the large number of building applications.

Crown Manager Doug Martin, who was appointed by the Government to oversee the council's building consents process earlier this year, says this is in response to the huge demand for building consents.

Mr Martin says it will mean at least another 11 processing days are added to the council's processing calendar.

He says working through the holidays, except for the statutory days, is part of the council's package to help stabilise demand for building consents.

Mr Martin says the council is also looking for quality building consent applications, and staff will not accept incomplete or technically inaccurate applications.
