South Auckland children warned not to walk alone

3:50 pm on 14 November 2013

Police in South Auckland are warning children not to walk alone after a series of sexual assaults in the past few weeks.

There have been seven separate attacks in and around the Manukau Sports Bowl, the Botanic Gardens and Totara Park.

In the latest incident, a 13-year old was indecently assaulted at a playground near the Manukau Sports Bowl on the afternoon of 9 November.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darrell Harpur says police have been in contact with schools in the area.

Mr Harpur says children are advised not to take short-cuts through parks and other secluded areas and to always walk with a friend or parent.
