Heavy rain is forecast for the North Island and most of the South Island over the next few days.
The Met Service says the heaviest falls are expected in Bay of Plenty, Taupo and northern Gisborne.
Heavy rainfall is also likely for much of Marlborough and Canterbury, north of the Rakaia.
Severe thunderstorms are also forecast over much of the North Island, with 40mm of rain per hour and gusts of up to 110km per hour expected for Waikato and Taranaki.
