A house in the Wellington suburb of Mount Cook has been severely damaged by fire.
The Fire Service says an occupant called emergency services just after 6pm on Saturday.
At least eight fire engines were sent to the property, which is in a street of tightly packed houses.
The Fire Service says firefighters, worried the fire could spread, evacuated neighbouring properties.
They were able to quickly bring the blaze under control and are pulling the roof off the house to ensure the fire is completely out.
