Lawyer's appeal bid rejected

The Court of Appeal has dismissed a bid by disgraced lawyer Barry Hart to have his case reviewed.

Mr Hart's 46-year career came to an end when he was struck off last year by the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal for gross overcharging and other misconduct.

He failed to turn up to his own hearing, saying he was unwell, but it went ahead anyway after the tribunal found he had tried to delay and obstruct the process.

The Court of Appeal has now rejected his appeal bid, with the three judges saying his arguments did not raise any questions of law. The court ordered him to pay costs.

Mr Hart had also asked the court to reconsider his penalty of being struck off, but the court found that was not a realistic option.
