Police seek man over fraud offences

8:48 am on 16 February 2014

Police in Mount Maunganui have identified a man wanted in connection with a number of fraud-related matters in Bay of Plenty.

They say they want to speak to Darren Thomas Takiaho.

Police say hotels were duped for accommodation and tourists tricked out of cash in exchange for bogus employment offers, and a rental vehicle has also been stolen.

They say Mr Takiaho, 49, is transient and known to use a variety of false names.

He is described as being of Maori descent, medium to solid build, 187 centimetres tall, with a short black receding hairline and missing front teeth.

He has a distinctive tattoo of a guitar on his left forearm.
