Heavy rain in the upper North Island on Friday has failed to break the drought gripping some regions.
MetService has issued severe rain warnings for parts of Waikato, as well as for Bay of Plenty and Gisborne.
However, Federated Farmers' Waikato president James Houghton said while any rain is welcome, much more is needed.
Mr Houghton said the region needs a few days of consistent rain, then a fine period followed by more rain, to properly irrigate the land.
MetService says the heavy rain has not reached Northland, which is also experiencing very dry conditions.
