Boaties help sought in search

4:36 pm on 25 October 2014

Police are appealing to boaties north of Auckland to help in the search for a missing fisherman.

Nicholas Stubbs, 22, and his friend went missing after leaving Martin's Bay in the Kawau area to fish early on Tuesday 14 October.

The body of his friend, Stewart Atutahi, 37, was recovered the next day.

They were in a four-metre red fibreglass dinghy which has not been found.

Inspector Mark Fergus said the search for both Mr Stubbs and the boat will continue over Labour Weekend.

"During this time we're expecting a large number of recreational boaties will be out in the Kawau Bay area and so we're asking anyone who is fishing around Kawau or Kawau Bay to just keep an eye out for anything unusual in the water."

Mark Fergus says what happens next in the search will be evaluated next week.
