Police in Auckland are at the scene of a homicide investigation, where a man was attacked in an Epsom motel room.

The 54-year-old man was found in his room at the Ascot Motel on Great South Rd about 9am today, and the police said it was clear a violent incident had occurred.
He died in Auckland Hospital this afternoon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Fabish said the police were looking for two men who were seen leaving the area shortly before the man was found.
He said they were also interested to hear from anyone who had seen a dark blue Range Rover between 8am and midday today.
Mr Fabish is urging anyone who can assist with the investigation to contact the police.
