A controversial brothel on the main street of Dannevirke opened its doors for the first time on Friday.
Promiscuous Girlz officially opened at midday, and its owner says she has barely heard a peep from opponents.
Tararua District Council approved the brothel, despite an 800-signature petition against it from the Concerned Citizens Group.
There has been a mixture of outrage, astonishment and resignation from residents about the proposal to open the brothel.
Brothel owner Teresa McGregor says no-one has given negative statements about the business to her in person and she is abiding by the rules of her resource consent.
Ms McGregor says she has some advance bookings but is not expecting an opening day rush for her five staff.
One opponent of the brothel, Gill Allardice, had said she would sit outside the business every day to ward people off.
Ms Allardice could not be contacted for comment on those plans or on the brothel's opening.
