The mother of Liberty Templeman, who was murdered in Kerikeri in 2008, says immigrants like the boy who killed her daughter should be deported.
Theo Kriel, 16, will serve a life sentence with a minimum non-parole period of 11-and a-half years for killing his schoolmate.
Kriel and his family came to New Zealand from South Africa about eight years ago.
Rebecca Templeman, whose family also immigrated to New Zealand, says people who move to a country then commit heinous crimes should be sent back either immediately, or once they have served their sentence.
Kriel was sentenced in court on Tuesday during which Justice Asher revealed the family had wanted to write a letter of apology to the Templemans, but the defence lawyer advised against this.
