A man is expected to appear in court on Friday following an incident in which the Armed Offenders Squad was deployed in Gisborne on Thursday night.
Police were called to an address in Bloomfield Road after reports that a firearm was discharged outside a house.
They say no-one was injured, but no weapon has been located.
A man, 37, was arrested about an hour after what the police say appears to have been a domestic-related incident.
