Maori voices seen as important on Pharmac

The Maori manager for Pharmac says having Maori voices on the medicine funding agency is important in improving Maori health status.

The agency is seeking Maori nominations for its consumer advisory committee.

Marama Parore says the three Maori selected will need good Maori community networks and strong advocacy skills.

She says data shows Maori are not making optimal use of medicines funded by Pharmac, and the advisory committee can help overcome that.

Ms Parore told Waatea News that Maori men die 10 - 14 years younger than other men.
