Two people are dead and two others injured after a road crash north of Te Kuiti.
Emergency services were called to the two car collision near Lees Block Road at around 1.30pm.
St John said two people had been taken to Waikato Hospital with moderate injuries.
State Highway 3 was closed north of Te Kuiti, but it has now reopened.
Meanwhile, State Highway 1 near Schollum Access Road, Warkworth, is also open again following another serious crash.
Police were called to the three car crash just before 5pm.
One person who was trapped in a vehicle and had to be cut free is in a serious condition.
The other occupants were tended to by ambulance at the scene.
