Two people are injured - one critically - when a car hit a pedestrian and crashed through a fence and into a power box in Rotorua.

The driver is in critical condition and the pedestrian is in hospital with a broken leg.

Police said about 20 people were on Wrigley Road, and at least two of them fighting, when the car attempted to leave early this morning.

Electricity to about 60 houses was cut when the car hit the power box.

A spokesperson for the power company says power should be restored this morning.
