Chapman Tripp is investigating a claim that one of its lawyers had sex with a student at a second-year law camp in Auckland in 2012.

Chapman Tripp board chair Andrew Woods said the firm became aware of the incident last week but its obligations as an employer prevent it from discussing details of the matter.

The firm had not previously known about the incident and its decision to stop sponsoring the law camp that year was not related to it.

Everyone at Chapman Tripp was very clear about expected standards and the consequences of not maintaining them, he said.
