Police in Auckland said they arrested a 41-year-old Kingseat man yesterday evening outside a Mt Eden bar.

They said they found what they believe is Mr Chance's body at a house in Kingseat - a rural area near the Manukau harbour. Police said they had not yet formally identified the body but believe it to be Mr Chance.

In a statement, Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie said officers' thoughts were with the dead man's friends and family who were absolutely devastated.

"Our focus throughout the investigation was finding Denver and being able to provide his family with answers. This is not the outcome any of us wanted, but at least we are now able to return Denver to his family and hold the person allegedly responsible for his death to account," Ms Goldie said.

Ms Goldie said police were able to narrow their enquiries following phone data and CCTV footage which placed Mr Chance in the area on the evening of his disappearance on 24 February.

The 41-year-old accused was due to appear in the Papakura District Court this morning.

Ms Goldie said the house at Kingseat had been locked down and the scene examination would take several days.

Kingseat dairy owner Lovejit Kaur, who has lived in the area for two years, said she knew all the locals, and was shocked at a find like this so near her home.

"You wouldn't think anything like that's going to happen in your area."
