Emergency services were called to a property at South Head on the Kaipara Harbour on 3 April after reports of gunfire.

A 52-year-old man was found dead at the house.

Amy Christine Smith, 37, was found nearby and charged with murder.

Smith was tearful as she entered a not guilty plea at the High Court in Auckland this morning.

Family and friends supported her in the public gallery.

Justice Toogood set a trial date for August next year and remanded the accused woman in custody.
