Counties Manukau Police are investigating a firearms incident that occurred in Waiau Pa in South Auckland this afternoon.
They were called to Wrights Road just after 2pm following a report that a man had received a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to Middlemore Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Police are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police presence remains on Wrights Road, where a scene guard is in place at the address.
They said they are speaking to a number of people near the address and said while no one has been arrested at this stage, they would like to reassure the public that they are not looking for anyone else.
