Boat that caught fire and sank near Taupō's Kinloch Beach could pose risk for other water users

Boaties using the water near Kinloch Beach, Taupō, are urged to take care after a vessel caught fire and sank this afternoon.

A boat has sunk near Kinloch Beach in Taupō this afternoon.

It caught fire just before 3pm, about 300 metres from shore.

Police said everyone who was onboard was safe and well, thanks to people nearby who came to their aid.

The vessel sank in about four metres of water and police said it may pose a hazard to other water users.

Boaties should watch for debris.
