One person has been taken to hospital after a gas leak at a home in the Auckland suburb of Kingsland on Monday afternoon.

Police said they were helping Fire and Emergency in the incident, which they were notified about 1.18pm.

Homes and businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

One person has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a moderate condition.

FENZ said the substance was removed and neutralised just after 1pm, and crews were checking the house for any other hazards.

Motorists were advised to expect delays or to avoid the area if possible.

Police earlier closed New North Road between Bond Street and Sandringham Rd, and at the new North Road intersection with Western Springs Road.

Cordons were lifted just after 4pm, and buses and trains were operating as normal.

However, Auckland Transport said some commuters on the Western Line could experience delays of about 10 minutes.
