Human remains found in an Otago river on Thursday have been identified as those of a tramper who went missing 11 months ago.
Irina Yun, 36, a Russian immigrant living in Auckland, disappeared on 31 December while walking the Cascade Saddle track.
Ms Yun's backpack was recovered from the Dart River during an extensive five-day search.
Police concluded that it had been torn off her by the force of the flooded river.
Some of the original search party returned to the area with a search and rescue dog last weekend, locating a femur and a pelvis wedged between rocks in the riverbed.
A pathologist has confirmed the remains are those of Ms Yun.
